Description
Short scale doesn’t mean short on tone. The American Performer Mustang Bass takes that classic 30″ scale comfort — great for players with smaller hands or anyone tired of wrestling a long-scale neck on a cramped stage — and pairs it with genuinely gig-worthy output. The alder body sits under a satin-necked “Modern C” profile, so your fretting hand glides through sets without drag, while 19 medium-jumbo frets give you room to bend notes with intent rather than fighting the fingerboard.
The pickup pairing is where this bass earns its keep. A Yosemite split-coil Mustang Bass pickup in the middle position — voiced from original ’70s drawings — delivers that punchy, slightly growly midrange Mustang basses are known for, while a Yosemite single-coil Jazz Bass pickup at the bridge adds snap and top-end clarity for slap or fingerstyle work. Blend them and you’ve got a surprisingly wide tonal palette from one small-bodied instrument. The Greasebucket tone circuit lets you dial back highs without the sound turning muddy or losing gain, so your tone stays focused as you shape it live.
Underneath, a 4-saddle bridge with string-through-body stringing locks in sustain and intonation, and tapered-shaft tuning machines keep string windings tight for solid tuning stability set after set. Rosewood fingerboard, white dot inlays, silver ’70s-style logo — classic Fender details, built for the stage.
