Description
The Mustang Bass has been sneaking into gig bags since 1964, and this PJ version keeps that underground short-scale legacy alive while packing in real tonal muscle. Fender took the compact, easy-reach 30″ scale Mustang body and armed it with a split single-coil P Bass pickup at the middle position plus a Jazz Bass single-coil at the bridge — so you get punchy low-mid thump and biting growl from the same instrument, dialed in with a three-way toggle.
The maple neck wears a modern “C” profile with a 9.5″ radius pau ferro fingerboard and 19 medium jumbo frets, making fast runs and chunky riffs equally comfortable under the hand. Smaller players, students, or anyone who’s tired of stretching across a 34″ scale will appreciate how quickly this neck disappears into muscle memory. The alder body wears a gloss polyester finish in Sonic Blue, set off by a 3-ply mint green pickguard for that unmistakable vintage-cool look.
Hardware is built for stage reliability: a 4-saddle hardtail bridge locks in tuning stability and sustain, vintage-style tuners keep things steady, and the engraved 4-bolt neck plate carries the Fender “F” logo as a nod to the original design.
