Description
Fretless basses ask more of you as a player, but they give back a voice you can’t get any other way — that vocal slide, the way notes bloom into pitch instead of snapping to it. This Player Series Jazz Bass in Polar White hands you that experience on an alder body with the classic Jazz Bass shape and a gloss polyester finish that looks sharp under stage lights.
The maple neck carries a “Modern C” profile with a 9.5″ radius fingerboard, striking a balance that suits players coming from fretted instruments as well as those chasing that fretless glide. Inlaid fret line markers keep you oriented without breaking the fretless illusion, and the pau ferro board offers smooth, low-friction travel under your fingers. Scale length sits at the standard 34″, nut width at 1.5″.
Tone comes from two Player Series Alnico 5 single-coil Jazz Bass pickups, wired with independent volume for each and a master tone control — enough to dial in everything from a woody, mwah-heavy upright vibe to a punchier, more modern low end. A 4-saddle bridge lets you fine-tune intonation and action to match your right-hand technique, which matters even more on a fretless where feel is everything.
Rounding out the build: a synthetic bone nut, vintage-style disc string trees, open-gear tuning machines, a 3-ply parchment pickguard, and the four-bolt “F”-stamped neck plate that marks it as genuine Fender. It ships strung with Fender USA Bass 9050M stainless steel flatwounds (.055-.105), the right choice for smooth fretless playing and reduced fingerboard wear.
