Not every practice amp needs to double as a mini studio, but the Rumble Studio 40 makes a solid case for it. Under the hood is Fender’s GT modeling engine, giving you access to 15+ amp models — from the ’59 Bassman voice up through hulking ’70s/’80s rigs and modern high-gain rigs — alongside 40 effects built specifically with bass in mind: octaver, envelope filter, an Octobot synth voice, plus the usual comp, EQ, delay and reverb.
What sets it apart from other modeling combos is the WiFi connection — a first for a bass amp. Pair it with the Fender Tone app over Bluetooth and you can pull down firmware updates, load new amp/effects models, grab artist presets, and swap ideas with other players. The large color LCD makes dialing in and saving your own presets straightforward, whether you’re in the bedroom or the control room.
Fender rebuilt the amp and effects models for better fidelity this time around, and opened up the signal chain so effects can be reordered to taste. Driving all of it is a 10″ Fender Special Design woofer paired with a switchable compression tweeter — enough to actually show off the tones you’re dialing in rather than muddy them.
For getting your signal out of the room: XLR line out, USB, and a headphone jack for silent practice, plus Bluetooth audio streaming so you can woodshed along to your own playlists. Add the optional MGT-4 footswitch and you’ve got hands-free preset switching and looper control for gigs and rehearsals alike.
