Before the split-coil P-Bass we all know took over, Fender’s earliest Precision basses ran a single coil pickup borrowed straight from the Telecaster playbook. The Antiquity brings that sound back, built the old way with four alnico magnets doing the work instead of ceramic substitutes. It’s the tone a lot of bassists chase but rarely find in modern reissues.
Seymour Duncan wound each coil with plain enamel magnet wire and finished it with wax-coated string for period-correct protection against microphonics. The hookup wire is genuine push-back cloth braid, the same style used on vintage originals, so it looks and feels right if you’re restoring or upgrading a P-Bass with vintage aspirations.
This is a calibrated single coil unit designed as a direct replacement for early single-coil P-Bass pickups, not the later split-coil design. It installs by screwing directly into the body cavity for height adjustment, and features a raised top-and-bottom magnet pattern for balanced string-to-string output.
