Every bassist who’s ever lugged a half-stack up three flights of stairs knows the appeal of the SansAmp RBI: all the tube-amp warmth and grit of Tech 21’s classic Bass Driver DI, expanded into a 1U rackmount unit built for real gigging and studio work. This is your rig-in-a-box — plug straight into a mixing board or PA and walk away with pro-level low end, no cabinet required.
Beyond the Drive, Presence, and active Bass/Treble EQ you’d expect, the RBI adds a dedicated Mid control plus an XLR Output Level knob so you can balance your sound against whatever PA you’re feeding. An onboard Effects Loop with a Mix 50/50 switch lets you run effects in series or parallel, and a buffered direct XLR output keeps a clean, dry signal available for a separate channel — handy for engineers who want options at the board.
Because it’s rack-mountable and light, the RBI opens up a few ways to work:
- Show up at a session with just the RBI and go straight into the board — no miking, no fuss.
- Run it direct through the house PA at a gig, skipping a bass amp entirely.
- Pair it with a power amp and cabinet for a more traditional rig, still feeding the PA through the RBI.
Additional features include ±12dB active Bass, Mid, and Treble controls, a Blend knob to mix your direct signal with the SansAmp tube emulation circuitry, a footswitch input to engage the unit, and a footswitch output to chain and toggle with a second RBI.
