Description
The P5J takes the classic P/J formula and stretches it to fit five strings without losing the character that makes that pairing work. You get the P pickup’s dense, woody low end – the kind that anchors a mix without needing a compressor to tame it – paired with a single LJ coil at the bridge for midrange punch and top-end snap. Dig in for slap and the LJ cuts through; roll back to the P alone and you’re in warm, rounded Motown territory.
Because it’s an active EMG system, output stays consistent and quiet no matter how hot your rig runs, and the tone shaping stays usable at every setting instead of going thin or muddy at the extremes. Blend the two pickups to taste and you’ve got a genuinely wide tonal range from one bass – useful if you’re covering multiple genres in a single set.
One thing to note before you order: the bridge LJ pickup is standard length at 3.75 inches, built for a max string width of 2.75 inches, so double-check your bass’s string spacing before buying.
