Description
The original Starfire Bass II showed up not long after Guild’s single-pickup version hit the scene in the 60s, and it carved out its own legacy fast — Jack Casady ran one with Jefferson Airplane, Phil Lesh used one in the Grateful Dead. This reissue brings back that same double-cutaway semi-hollow body, but now with a neck-position BS-1 added alongside the bridge unit, so you’ve got a rounder, smoother voice to blend in whenever the mix calls for it.
Under the high-gloss natural finish sits an arched laminated mahogany top and back with mahogany sides — construction built for that airy, resonant low end semi-hollows are known for, without sacrificing punch. The 3-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany neck carries a Vintage Soft “U” profile and a 30 3/4″ scale, comfortable in hand whether you’re playing seated at rehearsal or standing through a three-set night.
Both pickups are Guild’s own BS-1 BiSonic, the same design that powered Guild basses through the 60s and 70s and later inspired boutique reissues from builders like Fred Hammon and Curtis Novak. Wound to 6.4K Ohms, they land somewhere between vintage warmth and modern clarity — dial in the neck pickup for a fat, rounded tone or blend toward the bridge for more definition, all managed through individual volume/tone knobs, a master volume, and a 3-way toggle.
